Cuba and Turkey out to remain perfect in FIVB World Grand Prix
Either Cuba and Turkey will top Pool C of the FIVB World Grand Prix in Busan on Sunday.
The two nations won their first two matches in Week 1 but Cuba gave up a point against South Korea.
The Cubans are coming off a 3-1 victory over Japan. Yoana Palacios Mendoza, Yanelis Santos Allegne and Rosanna Giel Ramos towed the Caribbeans to a 25-20 20-25 25-18 25-20 win.
"I am very glad to have a win today which is a start to go up to next round in 2012 World Grand Prix," Cuba coach Juan Gala Rodriguez said.
Out to stop them is Turkey, which also needed four sets to dispose of South Korea. Polen Uslupehlivan fired 24 points to lead the Turks to a 25-18 22-25 25-21 25-14 win.
"It was a good game today. Both team had some problems, but we have better physical condition as we had more time to take a rest after the Continental Olympic qualification," Turkey Coach Marco Aurelio Motta said.
"I think we could go in the higher level with these 2012 World Grand Prix. Like other teams in 2012 WGP, we consider that 2012 WGP is also sort of preparation for the 2012 London Olympic Games and every team is getting better and better having matches."
